A client’s new meditation space–a place to call home

My latest client just moved into her rented apartment. She wanted a colorful, yet peaceful environment, where she could feel at home.

She also needed a place where she could meditate. So, with a few simple pieces and a small budget, I was able to give her the space she was looking for.

In her own words: “I look forward to waking up and coming home to it every day. It feels like my sanctuary.”

Seeing her happiness makes me feel so very happy, too – it is wonderful to bring joy to people’s lives 🙂

Here are a few photos of my client’s new home:

My very talented and smart husband

I have always been so proud of my hubby and now I can share my feelings with the rest of the world! “Ballet isn’t rocket science, but the two aren’t mutually exclusive, either” is an article about my husband Roger and his journey from Ballet Dancer to Scientist. Three of his dance friends and their stories are also in the article.  It will be in the Washington Post print edition this Sunday, December 23rd 😉

Here is the link to the online version: “Ballet isn’t rocket science, but the two aren’t mutually exclusive, either”

He will also be part of a documentary about the Joffrey Ballet on Friday, December 28th, at 9pm ET on PBS American Masters!

Enjoy 🙂

Designing my client’s first home on a budget

A client of mine just purchased her first home. With a limited budget, and a dream of a comfortable, inviting, and peaceful space, the client wanted a place to come home to…

I went to work, determined to create a home for my client with all that she desired. The end result was just perfect for my client, who was so very pleased!

Here is the space before:

Now take a look at my client’s new home! The accessories are still in storage, and I will have to go back, to style the space and to finish the bedroom, but I could not wait to show you the work in progress 🙂

This is the entryway:

Here are the office area and dining room:

3D Walls!

This is a great article via “Designer Pages:”
“Technology has allowed traditionally 2D surfaces to break into the third dimension with tiles and materials that leave the plane of the wall to become sculptural accents to a room.”

Here are some incredible walls:

Here is a great blog entry from my best friend and business partner, Marin Rose, who is the founder of Functional, Fashionable, located in Augusta, GA. So, if you live in the Augusta area, and you need help with organizing and decorating, contact Marin Rose at functionalfashionable@gmail.com! If you live in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, contact me (Mane’) at mrp@mrpdesignstudio.com!

Functional, Fashionable

It doesn’t take much time or money to turn a finished basement into a cozy living space. Marin Rose and Mané Rebelo-Plaut created this vibrant, comfortable in just 2 days for under $500.

The neutral wall color allowed us to take the red couch and run with it. We purchased a loud, plush area rug from World Market for comfort and style. An inexpensive shelving unit displays books, photos and personal items. We moved the sofa pillows to the oversized chair and replaced them with accent pillows.

Some digging around in the basement storage area revealed several old posters, which we placed in inexpensive frames. Since color was our inspiration, we jazzed up the lamps with bright yellow shades.
